If you play stupid games, be ready to win stupid prizes.

Rule-breaking is rampant on Amazon again. If you think the current wave of policy team enforcement is just a passing phase ahead of Prime Day, you are severely miscalculating your risk of missing out on the whole event.

Lately, we are seeing an influx of brands taking "shortcuts" or trusting the wrong services or tools, when automated review generation, so-called "grey-hat" product review or ranking tactics, and review manipulation networks.

Pro-tip: the only people using the term "grey hat" who believe it actually means something are sellers dependent on tricks, and service providers or consultants selling "secret" or "test hacks."

No one at Amazon using a term like grey hat, or thinks it's a meaningful explanation for any policy enforcement flags.

Everyone selling something will say they are "Amazon TOS compliant."

Are they? Are you taking them at their word? Is it wishful thinking?

Here is what happens when you play those games:

The "prize" isn't a slap on the wrist but a total ASIN/ listing deactivation which could lead to an account suspension. If you botch the appeals, that could turn permanent.

The recovery cost is 5-10x the cost of doing it right. You lose your sales rank, search "momentum" and your revenue stream from those ASINs while trying to prove to Amazon you didn't do anything wrong.

Or, you have to admit wrongdoing, hope for leniency...and prove you'll never make a nuisance of yourself again.

Will they believe you?

Amazon's detection is better than your black-hat service provider claims.

If a "guru" or agency tells you they have a bulletproof way to bypass Amazon's policies, they are gambling with your livelihood, not theirs. They get paid either way -- will they be around when your account falls?
