What Alexa for shopping has to offer.

Amazon retired Rufus on May 13, 2026, and replaced it with Alexa for Shopping, a fully agentic AI assistant built into the Amazon Shopping app, so in a way, we can say that Rufus never officially made it out of its beta phase.

What we used to have got upgrades on top of its original functions, including comparing products, promoting conversion through recommendations, and reading your listing data to do all of it.

For example there is something I am really surprised by: Scheduled Actions, which is the part most sellers are ignoring entirely.

A buyer can now tell Alexa for Shopping to restock their pet food every month, and the assistant will do it automatically using past order data. If your ASIN is not the one that appears in that reorder loop, you are not getting that repeat purchase.

This is like having a Subscribe and Save with AI, with one critical difference. Subscribe and Save locks a buyer to your ASIN by design. Scheduled Actions do not. The assistant re-evaluates the best product each time the action runs, which means a better-optimized competitor listing can replace you in that reorder cycle without the buyer doing anything at all.

Another thing I have mixed feelings about is that Alexa also reads from outside Amazon and surfaces "Shop Direct" results from other web stores, meaning your brand's off-Amazon presence is now a factor in how you compete on Amazon.

After giving it a try, I can also see it pulls price history up to 365 days back, compares ASINs side by side from search results, generates AI overviews on Product Detail Pages, and can auto-purchase an item the moment it hits a buyer's target price.

All of this runs before a buyer ever taps "Add to Cart."

Here is what that means for your catalog: if your title, bullet points, and backend data are not structured clearly, Alexa for Shopping will surface a competitor who is (since it only uses what it can read and match). The system reads product attributes the same way a Flat File does, it needs structured, clean, complete data to match a buyer's query with confidence.

So what can you do with this? This is the right moment to optimize your listings and implement your content correctly, so the AI matches you with the right customer, the one who buys and stays.

If your content is not built for how the system reads it, the system will route buyers elsewhere, automatically, and at scale.
