MOST MANUFACTURERS HAVE STALLED OUT on the digital shelf.

They miss what they are literally holding in their hands. Their Mobile.

THE DIGITAL SHELF IS THE MOBILE SCREEN. Not Desktop.

The Shift HAS HAPPENED. It's 2026. The iPhone launched in 2007.

We're 20 years into the shift. And the shift is accelerating.

Today, shoppers aren’t standing in aisles,

carefully comparing products.

They’re Scrolling.

Fast.

ON THEIR PHONES.

When I was in Unilever, we used to talk about

"Win The Screen, Win The Scroll"

We knew our brands had about a second to communicate value before attention evaporated.

That’s why “glance-readability” is becoming one of the most overlooked performance metrics in digital commerce. I would even go so far as to say it's a new metric for digital shelf success. Certainly, a measure of visual content quality. Until now measuring readability was manual. So people didn't bother they eyeballed it and treated the 4W's as a checklist not a test.

But their share growth in digital commerce has stalled as a result.

That's also why I'm renaming "mobile-ready hero images" as

"MOBILE READABLE Hero Images"

I want to provoke you to have a fresh look at your numbers sold through mobile devices, as that's where the action is, but you didn't know how to properly design for mobile-readability.

The April 2026 numbers from Similarweb tell the story.

=============================

Digital Commerce is now all about mobile.

If your content is unreadable on mobile... It's not Digital-Commerce-ready.

Now you can measure how important mobile is with SimilarWeb.

And you can measure if your content is mobile-readable with RHINO.

So, when was the last time you looked at measuring your readability on mobile?

And when did you last check on device split usage?
