Everyone's talking about it. Most people can't explain it. So let's fix that.

If you've been following along, you know MCP has been coming up a lot lately. Model Context Protocol. It's a mouthful of a phrase, and yet it doesn't tell you much about what it does or what it actually means for your business.

In simple terms, MCP is the connection layer between AI and everything else. Your campaign data, your reporting platforms, your workflow tools. MCP is what lets AI pull from one and act in another, without a custom integration standing in the way.

Alfred Wang, Pacvue's Senior Director of Product Management, puts it this way:

"MCP is the USB of the AI era. If an AI model is the brain, MCP is how that brain interacts with the rest of the world."

But what makes it significant isn't just the technology itself. It's what it replaces and the problems it avoids.

Before MCP, getting an AI tool to connect to your business data meant manual inputs or building custom API integrations for every single connection. Every platform. Every data source. Built from scratch and maintained as things changed.

Don't get me wrong, APIs are powerful and give you precise control. But for teams without dedicated engineering resources to build and maintain them, it is painstaking work to keep those connections up and running. And that complexity keeps a lot of AI value locked in silos.

MCP is the fix. One protocol that any compatible system already speaks.

Amazon adopted it. OpenAI adopted it. Salesforce, Google, Slack. And yes, Pacvue too!

With Pacvue's MCP server, brands and agencies can access live campaign data across Amazon, Walmart, Instacart, and more directly in the AI tools they're already using. No manual exports. No platform switching. No rebuilding reports from scratch. The data comes to where decisions get made. No extra work for dev teams required.

Today's post kicks off a series where I break down MCP in plain language for commerce executives and teams.

Making Sense of MCP continues next week. Stay tuned.
