Most Amazon Agencies Won’t Sell, and The Market Has Already Moved On
I’ll skip the usual opener, but there’s been a noticeable shift:
More Amazon agency owners are quietly exploring exits.
Not loudly.
Not publicly.
But consistently.
Some want out. Some just want to take money off the table.
The problem?
Most of them won’t sell.
Because the market they built for… is disappearing.
A lot of agencies were designed for:
FBA brands
Private label growth
Launch + rank
That worked, until it didn’t.
Now:
FBA brand growth has slowed
Aggregators have pulled back
Brands have grown up
And with that…
Expectations have changed.
Here’s the big shift nobody wants to say out loud:
Brands are no longer paying big retainers for execution. They don’t want:
PPC management
Listing optimisation
Weekly reports
Not on their own ...
They want:
Direction
Clarity
Strategy
They want someone who can tell them:
what to do next, and why it matters.
And this is where most Amazon agencies get stuck. They were built to:
Execute
Optimise
Deliver tasks efficiently
Not to:
Lead strategy
Influence decision-making
Operate as true growth partners
That gap?
It’s now showing up in:
Pricing pressure
Shorter contracts
Higher churn
At the same time… there’s still a lot of noise around valuations.
“4–8x multiples”
“Strong demand”
“Agencies are hot”
Sure, for a small group.
The ones with:
Real positioning
Diversified revenue
Strategic capability
Strong retention
For everyone else?
It’s a different story.
Lower multiples.
More structure.
More scrutiny.
Because ultimately:
An agency isn’t worth a multiple, it’s worth what a buyer is willing to pay.
So now owners are facing a decision.
Transform the business…
Or try to exit it.
But staying where you are?
That’s the risky option.
The Amazon agency space isn’t disappearing.
But it is maturing.
And in maturing markets:
Execution gets commoditised
Retainers get squeezed
Strategy captures the value
The opportunity is still there, it's just not where it used to be.
