A brand told me last week they were ranking for 400 keywords
I pulled the report
They were indexed for 400 keywords, actually ranking on page 1 for 12
Indexed and ranked aren't the same thing and the gap between them is where most Amazon listings quietly die
Indexed means Amazon knows your product exists for a keyword, you're in the library, you're eligible to appear when someone searches
Ranked means Amazon has decided to put you on the front shelf, page 1, top 10 spots, where shoppers actually see you
You can be indexed for thousands of keywords and visible on almost none of them
Indexing is a content problem, ranking is a performance problem
You get indexed by putting the keyword in the right place, title, bullets, backend search terms, A+ content, alt text, that's a copywriting and listing structure task
You earn rank by proving to Amazon that when shoppers see you for that keyword, they click, they buy, and they don't return the product
➝ Index with keywords
➝ Drive traffic with PPC
➝ Convert that traffic on the listing
➝ Stack up clicks, sales, and reviews
➝ Amazon promotes you up the page
No conversions, no rank
You can spend $20K a month on PPC for a keyword you're indexed on, if your listing doesn't convert, Amazon will keep you buried
This is why a beautiful listing with perfect keyword density still fails
Indexing got you in the door
Conversion is what gets you the front shelf
Stop celebrating that you're indexed for 400 keywords
Start asking how many of them you actually rank top 10 on
