I’ve seen 7-figure Amazon sellers lose their accounts overnight because of one botched giveaway.

Everyone wants the instant spike in BSR (Best Sellers Rank).

Nobody respects the terms of service.

If you're running an Amazon giveaway right now, you aren't just playing with your inventory margin, you're playing with your business's lifeblood.

After running countless campaigns and auditing the ones that ended in disaster, here are my 4 non-negotiable rules for Amazon

Giveaways:

𝐑𝐮𝐥𝐞 𝟏: 𝐍𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫, 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰.

If your giveaway funnel even remotely hints at "leave a 5-star review for a chance to win," you are building a house of cards. Amazon’s algorithm is smarter than your workaround. Give the product away no-strings-attached, or don't do it at all.

𝐑𝐮𝐥𝐞 𝟐: 𝐃𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰𝐬.

If you give a product away at 100% off (or anything higher than a 30% discount), do not expect those reviews to stick or carry a "Verified Purchase" badge. Amazon will strip them. Use giveaways for velocity and ranking, not for review farming.

𝐑𝐮𝐥𝐞 𝟑: 𝐍𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠.

If you blast a raw Amazon link to a giveaway audience, your conversion rate will tank. A tanked conversion rate signals to Amazon that your product is irrelevant, killing your organic rank. Always use an intermediate landing page to filter out the bots and freebie-seekers.

𝐑𝐮𝐥𝐞 𝟒: 𝐎𝐰𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚.

If you hand out promo codes without capturing an email or phone number first, you are lighting money on fire. The true ROI of a giveaway isn't the temporary rank spike—it’s the audience you acquire for your next product launch.

Stop treating giveaways like a magic bullet.

Treat them like top-of-funnel customer acquisition, play strictly within the TOS, and protect your listing at all costs.

How are you driving off-Amazon traffic this quarter?
