When Amazon says your prices aren't right....

But you only sell on Amazon.

For context, a brand owner we worked with lost the Featured Offer (Buy Box) on their listing due to a competitive price restriction.

The thing is that the product had no other sellers, no external retailers, no authorized third parties.

In cases like this, the logic feels solid: if there is no external listing, there is no valid external price, so the restriction should be easy to remove by Seller Support.

The restriction stayed active for weeks even after many cases...

Here is what the system was actually doing: Amazon's pricing algorithm detected a lower price from an external source (which we never found), applied a high price threshold to the ASIN, and automatically suppressed the Featured Offer.

The problem here, is that it did not check whether the brand sold exclusively on Amazon. It did not verify whether the detected external listing was authorized, new, used, or even accurate.

The algorithm found a number, compared two numbers, and enforced the policy.

This is the separation most sellers do not see until it costs them. Your brand ownership lives in one part of Amazon's system, while Pricing enforcement lives in a completely different part.

So one does not inform the other, and you can have everything in order on the catalog side and still get flagged on the pricing side.

The same thing applies to Seller Support and Brand Registry teams, which cannot remove a competitive price threshold. Each team operates on different parts of the infrastructure. Routing to the wrong team just makes things entirely slower.

In this case, we found the solution, and the restriction was removed.

The full case breakdown, including the exact escalation path, the evidence structure required, and the sequence that actually works, is in this week's OSS Lab issue: https://lnkd.in/dn3Fe_P6

♻️ Repost this if you know a brand owner operating on Amazon exclusively, their listing might already be flagged and they just do not know why.
