There Is No Rate “What’s the market rate for Amazon account management?” It’s on

There Is No Rate

“What’s the market rate for Amazon account management?”

It’s one of the most common questions I get asked, and the honest answer is always the same:

There isn’t one.

That answer tends to frustrate people because most agency owners believe their service is as good as (if not better than), their competitors. So when they lose a pitch, the natural conclusion is:

“We got undercut.”

Sometimes that’s true, but far more often, it isn’t.

Having worked across a wide range of Amazon agencies, the pricing spectrum alone tells the story. In the UK, retainers can range from £500 to £5,000+ per month, before any commission is layered in. In the US, it’s higher again.

Same channel. Same platform. Completely different pricing structures.

The assumption that breaks things is simple:

That “Amazon full service” means the same thing everywhere.

It doesn’t, not even close.

Ask ten agencies what “full service” includes, and you’ll hear ten different answers.

For some, it’s execution.

For others, it includes strategy, content, retail operations, DSP, AMC, international expansion, even internal stakeholder support.

It’s become a catch-all phrase. And catch-alls don’t create clarity, they create confusion.

Because if you assume the service is the same, then price becomes the only variable.

That’s where many agencies get stuck.

They look sideways at competitors.

They try to benchmark “market rates.”

They question why they’re losing deals.

All while missing the real issue ... not all delivery models are equal.

An account manager handling ten clients is not delivering the same experience as one handling three or four.

A generalist service is not the same as a proposition built specifically around a defined ICP.

Yet many agencies treat these as equivalent. They aren’t.

The agencies commanding higher fees aren’t guessing. They’re clear.

Clear on who they serve.

Clear on what they deliver.

Clear on their cost to serve.

Clear on the value they create.

They don’t benchmark competitors.

They don’t anchor to a “market rate.”

They build pricing from first principles.

So when the question comes up again:

“What’s the market rate?”

It’s usually the wrong question.

The more useful one is:

“What am I actually selling, and who is it for?”

Because until that’s defined, pricing will always feel uncertain.

And lost pitches will continue to be blamed on price, even when they aren’t.

There is no market rate.

There is only positioning.
