Google just killed Loom.

And you just haven’t realized it yet.

I found the new Chrome extension inside Google Workspace called Google Vids Screen Recorder.

One click from your browser.

No extra tools. No extra cost.

Here’s what changed:

→ You record straight from Chrome

→ Built-in AI virtual backgrounds

→ Noise cancellation + countdowns baked in

That alone replaces Loom for most use cases.

But this is where it gets serious.

When you finish recording?

You don’t just send the video.

⤷ You open it inside Google Vids & edit everything.

→ Add captions

→ Control layouts

→ Drop in stock images

Your camera feed?

You can:

→ Resize it

→ Move it anywhere

→ Turn it into a circle, square, even custom shapes

Try doing that in Loom.

You can even build branded scenes.

I dropped in a carbon fiber background behind my recording.

Looked like a full production setup in under 2 minutes.

No editing software.

No design tools.

Then export?

→ One click to YouTube

→ Download as MP4

→ Save as GIF

Permissions are instant.

“Anyone with the link” and you’re done.

If you already pay for Google Workspace - you’re paying for Loom for no reason.

Same core use case.

More control.

Better output.

Google already owns your docs, your files, your meetings.

→ Now they own async video too.
