Amazon search just became identity-driven.

If your listing doesn’t speak to a specific person, it won’t win.

Right now, Amazon is rolling out a "Tell us about you" feature inside Rufus, where shoppers can type anything: their style, their hobbies, who they buy for, their pets, their home setup. That one input is saved to their profile and applied to every future search.

Amazon's own interface confirms it: "As you shop on Amazon or chat with Rufus or Alexa, we'll save helpful information to personalize your experience."

This totally feels like a profile-matching update. where the query stays the same but the shopper profile changes and the product stack changes with it.

For example, two people searching "storage bins" will see different results based on whether one of them told Rufus, "I have three kids and a small apartment," and the other said, "I run a minimalist home office."

The system is no longer just reading your listing, instead, it is reading it against a shopper identity layer.

Here is what this means structurally: your bullet points, A+ content, and backend keywords are now serving two functions.

They feed traditional keyword indexing AND they act as signals Rufus uses to match your ASIN to a shopper profile. A listing that says "designed for families with young kids" is now anchored to a use case that Rufus can map to a real person.

Generic feature lists do not anchor to anyone, allowing audience-specific language anchors to everyone Rufus has on file.

So now you should audit your top ASINs.

Ask: does this listing speak to a specific type of person or just describe a product? Add identity language like "Ideal for pet owners," "built for small home offices," "perfect for parents managing school schedules." For better use-case clarity, and for Rufus to read for exactly that.

Thank you to Ritu Java for sharing this update first. This one is worth paying attention to.

Tell us everything Rufus should know about your shopper.

We’ll turn that into backend signals Rufus can read and match:
