The "Content Sweet Spot" most brands miss.
I sit through countless marketing meetings every month, and the content strategy conversations usually fall into one of two traps:
1. The Megaphone: "Let's write another post about how great our new feature is!"
2. The Pandering: "What's trending on social media today? Let's just do a meme about that!"
Both of these strategies are a one-way ticket to zero ROI.
Here is the harsh reality about building authority online: No one cares about your brand's deep expertise until you connect it to their immediate problems. But simply answering their questions doesn't build long-term loyalty unless you do it in a way only you can.
When I see a team struggling to get traction, I draw a simple Venn diagram on the whiteboard.
It comes down to balancing two critical elements:
• 𝐂𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬: This is the left side of the equation. What is your audience actively struggling with? What are their pain points, their late-night Google searches, and their daily frustrations?
• 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞: This is the right side. This is your unfair advantage. It's the perspective, data, or deep knowledge that you possess better than anyone else in your space.
The magic doesn't happen in either circle alone. The real growth - the revenue, the authority, the credibility - happens in the overlap. That intersection is your "𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐭".
If you only focus on customer interests, you become a generic, forgettable wiki page. If you only focus on your brand expertise, you become a boring corporate brochure that everyone scrolls past.
𝐓𝐨 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐭, 𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬:
1. Does my target audience actually care about this right now?
2. Am I bringing a unique perspective or solution that only my experience can provide?
If the answer to either is "no," scrap it and start over.
