Your Amazon product types are wrong.
Here's why that kills your sales...
I've seen it happen dozens of times.
A seller lists shoes.
Amazon categorizes them as "toy figures."
No, I'm not joking. This actually happened to one of our test listings.
Now your shoe listing is missing critical attributes:
→ No footwear size
→ No material options
→ No width selections
Customers can't find what they're looking for.
Your conversion rate tanks.
So you think "I'll just fix the product type."
Here's the brutal truth: You can't.
Amazon's API doesn't let you change product types through a simple patch.
You'd have to recreate the entire listing from scratch.
And even then, we've tested this extensively — it fails more often than it works.
You get vague error codes that tell you nothing.
Amazon's own documentation doesn't explain how to fix it.
The only reliable solution?
Get your product type right from day one.
Research similar ASINs in your category before you list.
Use Amazon's exact terminology.
Double-check the attributes your product type supports.
Because once Amazon gets it wrong, you're stuck with a broken listing.
What's the weirdest product type Amazon has assigned to your listings?
