When I first launched VitaCup, I spent a year building the brand for a customer that didn't exist.
We were targeting young, health-conscious coffee drinkers, probably 25-35.
Then our data revealed that our best customers were 45 and 50+. Not even close to who I thought we were going after.
I had two choices: fight the data or follow it.
We followed it, and VitaCup's growth on Amazon exploded.
The lesson I took from it:
Revenue divided by ad spend is the only thing that matters. If it's working, it's working.
Don't get attached to who you thought the customer was going to be.
Let the data tell you who actually wants what you're selling.
