“Full Service”… or Fully Unprofitable? Amazon agency owners let’s call this out

“Full Service”… or Fully Unprofitable?

Amazon agency owners let’s call this out properly, scope creep isn’t just a nuisance, it’s the silent killer of your margins.

It doesn’t show up dramatically.

It doesn’t break things overnight.

It just quietly leaks profit…

while you’re busy “adding value.”

You win the client.

You deliver strong work.

The relationship feels good.

But the numbers? Start telling a different story.

Why?

Because “just one more thing” becomes:

Another report.

Another market.

Another SKU set.

Another “quick favour.”

Before long, you’re not running an agency, you’re running a well intentioned charity.

And here’s the real issue:

Most of this hides behind one label.

“Full service.”

Ask ten Amazon agencies what that actually means…

You’ll get ten different answers.

Execution?

Strategy?

Content?

Retail ops?

DSP?

AMC?

International expansion?

Internal stakeholder support?

It’s become a catch all, and catch alls don’t protect margins.

They destroy them.

Because if “full service” isn’t clearly defined…

Scope becomes elastic.

And once you teach clients that boundaries are flexible…

Try tightening them later.

That’s not a commercial conversation, that’s a negotiation you’ve already lost.

This is where most agencies get stuck.

Hiding behind “market rates.”

Hesitating to push back.

Absorbing extra work to protect relationships.

But that’s not market pressure, it’s misaligned positioning.

So here’s the uncomfortable question:

Is it time we actually define (as an industry) what “full service Amazon agency” means?

What’s included.

What isn’t.

Where value sits.

Where additional cost applies.

Because until that’s clear…

Agencies will keep over delivering.

Clients will keep over expecting and profitability will keep eroding.

The fix isn’t complicated.

Define your scope, precisely.

Enforce it, consistently.

Price for the value you create, not the tasks you absorb.

When that happens:

Margins stabilise.

Clients respect boundaries.

Teams stop carrying invisible workload.

And “full service” stops being a liability…

… and starts becoming a deliberate choice.

Because scope creep doesn’t kill agencies overnight.

It just makes them unprofitable enough to stall.
