15 years of tech debt taught me this about scaling operations

I was staring at a process flowchart last week.

Three different people touch the same client data.

Five separate spreadsheets for one Amazon campaign.

Manual steps that nobody remembers why we do.

"Why do we even do that?" I asked.

"I have no fricking idea," came the honest answer.

...

This is what 15 years of growth looks like:

Every successful quarter adds complexity.

Every new hire creates a workaround.

Every client emergency becomes "the new process."

You don't set out to build chaos.

Chaos builds itself while you're busy scaling.

...

The insight: Don't avoid tech debt. Manage it.

Every 6 months, ask the brutal questions:

→ Why do we still do this manually?

→ Which steps could disappear tomorrow?

→ What would we build if starting fresh?

Then pick the biggest pain point and fix it.

...

We just automated our client email intake process.

No more missed messages.

No more Friday emails sitting until Tuesday.

No more "I thought you were handling this."

One less thing that makes zero sense to explain to new hires.

...

What process in your business would you eliminate if you could start over?
