Most brands on Amazon have no idea how much of their category they're actually capturing.
They look at revenue. They look at ACOS, and TACoS.
But there's a metric that tells you more about your competitive position than almost anything else: click market share.
I recently ran an audit for a brand in a niche category. They're the premium option, strong brand recognition, solid reviews.
Their click market share? 8.4%.
That means for every 100 clicks happening in their category, they're getting fewer than 9.
Meanwhile, their top competitor is estimated at $537K/month in revenue — and a big reason why is they're simply showing up more.
Here's what was happening under the hood:
59% of this brand's sponsored ad sales came from their own branded keywords.
They were paying to capture demand they already owned — and barely competing for the rest.
No sponsored display. No video ads. Minimal competitor targeting. Almost everything on broad match.
They weren't losing because of their product. They were losing because of their visibility.
Click market share forces you to answer a simple question: when someone is shopping your category, are they even seeing you?
If you don't know your click market share, that's the first thing to fix.
What metrics are you using to measure your competitive position on Amazon?
