Presence still matters
When I’m home hammering a keyboard,
I have one goal.
Move the needle.
Metrics up.
Problems solved.
Progress made.
When I leave the house,
I switch goals completely.
Smile.
It starts with cracking my own smile at the door.
Then it spreads.
Walking my dog makes people smile.
Ordering coffee and hearing “A A Ron” makes people smile,
if they know the skit.
Complimenting someone’s colorful shoes works every time.
So does eye contact.
So does being present.
Face to face interactions are not interruptions.
They are opportunities.
Opportunities to leave a memory.
And if you’re leaving one,
make it a good one.
