Amazon just changed how software costs work. Most sellers are watching the SP-AP

Amazon just changed how software costs work.

Most sellers are watching the SP-API pricing announcement and thinking it's a developer problem.

They see "$1,400/year plus usage fees" and assume their tools will stay the same price.

But every tool you use talks to Amazon through API calls. Your repricer checks prices. Your inventory tool pulls stock levels. Your analytics dashboard requests sales data. Many of those data pulls happen through GET requests and Amazon’s new usage fee applies specifically to GET API call volume.

The more GET calls your tools make, the higher the bill. There is a Basic tier with no additional usage charge, but higher call volumes move developers into paid tiers.

Developers have three options. Absorb the cost and lose margin. Optimize their code to make fewer calls. Or pass the cost to you.

Most will pass it to you.

While pricing decisions will vary by provider, API cost pass-through is likely to become a structural SaaS pricing pressure. The tools you pay $50/month for today will cost $75 or $100 tomorrow because the infrastructure underneath them got more expensive.

The sequence is simple. Amazon charges access. Developers pay more to operate. SaaS prices rise to protect margin. Your P&L shrinks unless you adjust.

Tool bloat just became a line item expense you can't ignore.

So this might be a good moment to check your software stack this week. List every tool. Next to each one write what data it pulls from Amazon and how often. If a tool requests data every 15 minutes but you only need hourly updates, that's waste. If you're running two tools that pull the same reports, one is redundant.

Then ask: does this tool generate revenue or save measurable time?

If the answer is unclear, the tool is optional.

The sellers who survive 2026 will run fewer tools that do more. They'll pay for infrastructure that moves inventory, not dashboards that display anxiety.

This isn't about being cheap. It's about understanding that API access is now a variable cost in your operation.

What's the first tool you're cutting?
