Amazon's Rufus is not a search feature.

It is a buying filter.

And brands are not ready for what that means.

Traditional Amazon search: keyword in, results out.

→ The algorithm matched words.

Rufus: question in, curated answer out.

→ The AI matches intent.

That is a fundamentally different game.

A shopper used to type "best protein powder."

Now they type:

"What protein powder is best for muscle recovery after running?"

Rufus does not return a search results page.

⤷ It returns a recommendation with reasoning.

If your listing does not contain the context Rufus needs to recommend you, you are invisible.

Not ranked lower.

Invisible.

💨

Operationally?

→ Review sentiment feeds the AI.

→ Bullet copy needs to answer questions, not list features.

→ Backend keywords matter more than ever. Rufus reads them.

→ A+ content is no longer a conversion play. It is a discoverability play.

Brands who adapt first will own the top of Rufus recommendations for their categories.

The silly geese who keep optimizing for keyword matching?

⤷ Yea - the will wonder why impressions disappeared.

This is the shift from search to AI-curated commerce.

Optimize for the question.

Not the keyword.
