The Flat files you are using now have an expiration date.
Amazon updated its flat file templates in late 2024. Most sellers ignored it because the old templates were still uploaded without errors.
That grace period ends this month.
Here's what sellers believe is happening: Amazon made some template updates. Old files still work. There's still time to deal with this later.
Here's what is actually happening inside the system: Amazon is standardizing how product data gets collected and displayed. They're reclassifying which attributes are required, how variations get grouped, and how B2B offers are structured.
The old templates accept uploads today because Amazon is running both systems in parallel. That parallel window closes at the end of February 2026. After that, your old template files will fail to upload.
Here's the sequence of what happens if you wait:
You continue using your current flat file workflow. Everything uploads fine. No errors. No urgency.
The cutoff date arrives. Your old template files now reject at upload. You download the new template under time pressure.
You discover that attributes you weren't required to fill out before are now mandatory. Attributes you were filling may no longer exist. Your listings are suppressed because required fields are empty.
Variation themes you've been using have a "Deprecated: Do Not Use" suffix. Those families need to be deleted and rebuilt with new theme options.
If you're selling on Amazon Business, your offer structure has changed. What was called "Business Price" is now "Your Price" under the "Offer (Amazon Business)" group. Your pricing feed breaks.
You now have zero buffer time to remap your catalog, fill new required attributes, rebuild variation families, and fix your feed automation.
So what can you do with this?
➡️ Download the new template today. Compare it line by line against your current feed structure. Identify which attributes are newly required for your category. Identify which attributes you're filling that no longer exist.
➡️ Check every variation family you manage. If the theme shows "Deprecated: Do Not Use," delete the parent and rebuild the family with a supported theme option.
➡️ If you're a B2B seller, audit your pricing feed now. The offer grouping change affects how business pricing and quantity discounts get processed.
You have 18 days before the old system stops accepting uploads. The sellers who migrate now will catch suppression issues while both templates still work. The sellers who wait will be troubleshooting live listing failures.
