One of the most underrated skills in eCommerce is restraint. Most Amazon sellers

One of the most underrated skills in eCommerce is restraint.

Most Amazon sellers only evaluate opportunity.

Very few evaluate structural disadvantage.

Here’s what I mean.

We sold electronics accessories early on.

Great margins. High volume. Looked perfect on paper.

But the defect rate was around 15 percent.

And we had almost no control at the factory level.

At the same time, companies like Anker were building a different type of advantage.

They were in Shenzhen.

They opened and acquired factories.

They hired engineers.

They controlled cost and quality.

That is not a small edge.

That is a structural advantage.

So we made a decision that surprised a lot of people.

We exited electronics. Even though it was profitable.

Because long term success on Amazon is not about chasing every category that sells.

It is about choosing battles where you have leverage.

A simple way to think about it.

If you cannot control quality, your margins are fragile.

If you cannot compete on supply chain, your advantage is temporary.

If you cannot reduce defects, you are one bad batch away from refunds and reviews that crush the listing.

Sometimes the smartest growth decision is saying no.

Question. Are you choosing products based on demand alone, or based on where you actually have an edge?
