One of the biggest myths in eCommerce is that success on Amazon comes from “finding a hot product.”

It doesn’t.

It comes from understanding the data behind why products sell.

Early in our journey, Jennifer and I had some wins. But when we looked back honestly, many of those wins were luck. We weren’t operating with a repeatable process. We were guessing.

So we stepped back and treated it like an analytical problem.

Instead of asking, “What should we sell?” we asked one question that changed everything

How are current sellers actually getting their sales?

That question forces you to look at what matters:

• Which keywords are driving revenue

• Where the traffic is really coming from

• How competitive the niche actually is

• What the risk looks like before you invest in inventory

• Which opportunities are real vs. what just looks good on the surface

Jennifer’s background is computer science, she’s extremely methodical and data driven. I’m analytical by nature. We started building formulas, spreadsheets, and systems to break down what was working, what wasn’t, and why.

That process is what turned our results from blind luck into something repeatable.

Because product development without data isn’t entrepreneurship, it’s speculation.

If you can’t clearly explain how competitors get sales, you’re launching blind.

And launching blind is a high risk way to build a business.

What’s your current approach to product research, are you making decisions from data first or gut instinct first? 💭
