UGG’s comeback couldn't happen on Amazon.
That kind of virality was only possible on TikTok.
Back in the early 2000s, UGG boots were on the cover of fashion magazines, celebrity paparazzi shots, and style blogs.
But that type of return took months of placement and editorial approval.
On TikTok, it took a few creators and everyday users to convince shoppers:
“You NEED these.”
Suddenly, UGGs are back in fashion.
TikTok created the must-have moment. Amazon captured the buy now moment.
No Sponsored Product campaign can replicate the pull of a TikTok creator trying on UGGs and convincing their followers it's a must-have winter shoe.
Those same viewers now end up searching for UGGs on Amazon.
That’s the halo effect: demand created on TikTok, captured on Amazon.
If UGG had focused only on Amazon ads, they would’ve missed their chance.
You don’t sell the same way on TikTok Shop as you do on Amazon.
- Different audience behavior.
- Different content strategy.
- Different role in the funnel.
One builds the hype. The other closes the sale.
You need both. But you need to treat them differently.
