Hiring for an Amazon role right now? Using a recruiter or similar?
I find it a very interesting model where you're in no way incentivized to save the client money because if the client saves money, you also make less money. And as a result of that, I just am left asking, why would any recruiter in their right mind not maximize the budget that is given to them by a client, given that they're taking a percentage of that?
If you flip it around and look at a slightly different model where regardless of how much the client is paying each month in salary, the recruiter's fee does not go up or down. It is the same fixed amount that seems to be a position which would be in no way incentivising a recruiter to get the client to pay a much higher salary for the same talent.
I'm not trying to be argumentative here or calling out recruiters. They obviously have a huge industry and they clearly have a huge industry because they're doing something right, they're offering value and that value deserve to be compensated for. All I am doing is suggesting another model that puts money back into the pockets of the clients on an annual basis because that is typically how you're looking at your headcount.
You're looking at what is the annual cost, and if a recruiter is truly sensational, they will be able to find you talent that is way under budget. And if we consider Amazon in particular, where margins for brands are tighter than they've ever been and are only getting tighter.
Then you want to partner with a recruiter where they're constantly trying to help you make more margin and save you money rather than just squeeze more out of you.
