My aunty in law is a very good cook. Her super power is similar to what I see every day when reviewing senior Amazon ad managers. They can both be in any kitchen, with any food, and any tool, and perform brilliantly.
She's Scottish and her skills have been passed down from mother to daughter over n over again. Which has created a fabulous compounding of knowledge. Of which she has now added further to herself.
Her great ability, imo, is she can open the fridge or cupboards, and very easily make a range of different meals. Something I find quite challenging to do.
It doesn't matter if she's in her own home, or someone else's. The meal is great because she's been doing it for a long time and she's had good tuition.
I on the other hand have not been cooking properly for a long time (ever), I occasionally make the effort to learn, and it's mostly just about getting the job done -> "does it have high protein content" "will I feel bloated"
The difference is clear.
She creates much better meals, consistently, than I could ever do.
Her years of experience and continued learning are the enabler.
It's very clear for us when hiring/interviewing to spot those who are like aunty Mary, and those who are like George (me).
Those you'd trust in the random kitchen with new tools, and different products.
And those you wouldn't.
Amazon introduces new internal tools every week or month. There's 3rd party stuff jumping up all the time. The marketplace is constantly shifting. And despite all of this, a good ad manager can just handle it.
Even if they've not operated in the beauty or toys niche before, they have the experience and skills to perform.
Even if they've not used Helium 10 or Scale Insights before, because they've used often very similar tools, they'll be fine.
In 90% of scenarios, therefore, you're safer working with a senior Amazon PPC manager (4+ years typically) than a junior (1-3 years).
And that's why we only recruit the top 1% at Pare - always senior.
If you need help identifying if someone is senior or a junior pretending to be senior, get in touch or view the pre-vetted candidates we've already shared.
