Scrolling through my Amazon news feed this week and seeing a lot of Prime Day summaries. None of which have spoken of profit.

Doubling your sales is, in theory, fantastic. But if you're less profitable, what's the point?

Customer acquisition is one argument. But have you truly acquired these customers? I'd argue not. Cus it's Amazon. And they're not loyal.

Additionally, what type of customers are they? Deal hunters, I expect. Is this the type of customer you really want?

You could argue you get a ranking boost. And that halo effect will continue on post Prime Day. Very valid point. But is this all short lived?

Will that fade away as superior products ultimately then pass you by again? Deservedly so, given they have a better normal offering.

Brilliant brands will undoubtedly have smashed it on Prime Day. They will truly acquire customers. And their actual profits, not just margins I mean, will have gone up.

But the rest? I'm unsure.

I'll sit down with our team tomorrow and for most clients will look at what PD actually meant for profits. We have transparent relationships and most brands we work with share their margins, so we can do this.

Can more creators keep it front of mind with posts though? A small request.
