How I keep my inbox empty in 2 steps.

How I keep my inbox empty in 2 steps.

1) Create this simple inbox rule

"Message body contains 'unsubscribe'" ➡️ Delete.

Working on the premise that if you're being emailed by someone with an unsubscribe, you probably don't want their emails anyway.

2) Add an exception.

Add these slowly. When you feel you're actually missing something.

If you enjoy newsletters coming in, that's fine. A good way to stay updated. But by consciously making that extra effort, it ensures you definitely want that content.

You can also check the deleted folder sporadically to see if you still care about that impulse newsletter.

If you do, a) add them as an exception or b) flag it as "No Date" and it'll appear in your To Do (on Microsoft. Can set up alternatives for this).

If you use this in conjunction with something like Instapaper or Pocket, you have a system for reading blog-style content when you want to be reading it. And can action it. Whilst also keeping your inbox focused to actually achieving something.

There are other systems. I like this.
