I search for stuff I don’t need on Amazon every day
It’s incredibly infuriating to see...
“featured from our brands”
Nustled in above when some poor buggers who have paid to advertise
There are a couple of pain points to talk about here
1. Top of search wins more clicks and gets more sales, if Amazon are seen before your ad placement then they’re basically saying “buy a new placement if you want to win”
2. As Amazon save $ on ads they can charge lower prices. Often much lower. Sales velocity increases which makes them much harder to ever beat organically - it’s volume not revenue that impacts the sales rank.
3. Its not ‘customer obsession’ because they’re not delivering the best results for a search term based on data.
I understand supermarkets have done this for years and they can do what they want because it’s their marketplace (which tackles p1&2) but p3 is an Amazon mantra that it collides with.
“#Amazon products have better reviews on average” - higher volume and lower prices skew that average IMO.
If you’ve got 38 hours I can waffle about this more, but what do you think?
