I’ve never seen a Chinese listing with sex appeal.
Yet, China has taken over the top seller status on Amazon globally, with 49% of top Amazon.com sellers are based in China now (47% US based).
It doesn't surprise me that they are flocking to the US, given that it's the largest market, but in the same token it's the most competitive. This means that they are making relatively light work of carving through heavy competition that have been there for a long time.
Price is without doubt one of the biggest drivers here, sure, but they implement some incredibly crafty tactics and are on
the forefront of most new ideas. However, I still don't believe they have the ability to create a strong brand image.
Unfortunately, it seems that lots of US brands (and European), don't have the ability either.
There is still simply too many shit brands that have only achieved success on Amazon because they were there first.
Price wins when it’s up against long term sales history.
If you're an existing seller and fear threat, start building BETTER brand assets - on and off Amazon.
If you're starting out, don't use a fucking tool to pick a random product. Spend time building out a vision for your brand and product range, then ensure you implement with a serving of sex appeal.
