Google search ads are quaint. Brands have recently been seen to move as much as 50% of their ad budget from Google to Amazon because it directly correlates to sales. This is partly due to the much higher conversion rates they experience on Amazon, with a seamless payment process partly driving that.
What many brands are not doing though is working on increasing them conversion rates further. They gorge on articles hyping the pace at which Amazon Advertising is growing, then they put the blinkers on and focus on pouring dollar into it. If they take the blinkers off for a second they'd see that the detail page (listing) they're now driving customers to isn't converting as well as it should be.
Amazon Advertising should be step 3 in your Amazon strategy - following Operations (step 1) and Optimisation (step 2).
