We have entered the darkest timeline for Amazon variations.
Between Sept 2–Nov 30, 2025, Amazon is removing deprecated variation themes.
If you don’t fix your affected families, Amazon will split the child ASINs into stand-alone listings.
That means:
Splitting your reviews
Separating product ranks
Lower traffic to your ASINs
And potentially wasted ad spend
You need to audit your variation families NOW, to make sure your listings aren't affected.
Here are the steps:
1. Download Amazon's list of Variation Themes Planned for Removal OR download a new product template for your category (Deprecated variation themes will be marked as “Deprecated: Do Not Use.”)
2. For your affected variation families:
- Delete the old parent
- Create a new parent with an allowed theme and attach the children
3. Check the listings on the front end to make sure your variations are displaying properly, and reviews are aggregating.
Prioritize your top sellers first, but MOST importantly, don't force a variation theme that doesn't really fit because you want to keep a family as it was.
Amazon is extremely literal in their definitions of variation themes- the children can ONLY differ by that theme, or it's considered a variation misuse. Amazon can, and regularly does, suspend entire accounts for variation misuse. Often, the only path to reinstatement is to prove that you didn't violate their policies.
