🚨 BREAKING 🚨 Brands are in revolt over Amazon’s “Buy for Me” AI, which they say is listing their products on Amazon’s e-commerce site without their permission. Many of these are brands that have deliberately avoided selling on Amazon and instead sell through their own DTC sites, brick and mortar stores and other third-party marketplaces.

• Some brands found out only after a viral Instagram video prompted them to search their own brands on Amazon

• One brand founder has launched a self-reporting survey to gauge how widespread the issue is; the survey has received 145 responses from brands that believe their products were listed on Amazon without consent

• Others said the listings included incorrect images, out-of-stock items or pricing pulled from wholesale pages

• Even though brands have the option to opt out by emailing Amazon, merchants who spoke to Modern Retail say Amazon shouldn’t automatically opt sellers in in the first place.

• Merchants worry Amazon’s opt-out approach could damage brands’ reputations and hurt the customer experience.
