It still blows my mind how often I see A-tier brands treat Amazon as an afterthought.
They’ll throw up content, let their brand name do the heavy lifting, and leave the customer journey completely under-optimized. From a marketing background, it’s painful to watch.
Does it work? Sure, a lot of the time it does.
Are your customers getting the best shopping experience? Absolutely not.
Here's what I'm noticing fails and what they can do to improve:
1. Unoptimized is an understatement: The term "golfball" isn't referenced once in the title. It's purely the brand name and the style name.
2. Better but not strong bullets: A continued trend, "golfball" is not found anywhere in the bullets. They reference brand-unique designs like "spherically-tiled 388 tetrahedral dimple design" without an explanation on why it's a strong selling point.
3. $1.25M Monthly Revenue: Justification that brand names carry weight but what's the missing incremental drive they could be capturing by prioritizing the channel?
4. Rank #2: Could / should be #1
5. Carousel Images: This deserves its own post but a few high level callouts. The main image is a packaging shot and doesn't the physical product. Carousel images are different angles... of... a... circular... ball...
To be clear, this isn’t unique to golf, it’s a common theme across categories. The brand name carries the revenue, but weak content leaves the door wide open for competitors to chip away at market share.
At Commerce Ink, we are working with several category leaders who’ve decided to change this. They're investing in re-optimizing their Amazon presence and treating it like the revenue-driving channel it is. The results speak for themselves.
