Many expected international expansion to be one of the major responses of e-commerce businesses to the recent U.S. tariff uncertainty.

I studied the Marketplace Pulse data, and it showed that - on Amazon at least - this is categorically not happening.

American sellers have long been reluctant to expand beyond North America, and Chinese sellers have long been aggressive in international expansion.

Tariff fluctuations have so far had no meaningful impact on either of these realities. If tariffs on major regions settle at the percentages predicted, they will not provide the incentive needed for most businesses to tackle the perceived challenges of global expansion.
